DRYDEN — As temperatures drop and winter settles in, several Dryden-area community partners are stepping up to help people living without winter clothes.

A number of agencies and organizations — including Ontario Provincial Police, Kenora District Service Board, Adult and Teen Challenge (Dryden), FireFly, Dryden Regional Health Centre, Northwestern Health Unit, Dryden Native Friendship Centre, Rotary Club of Dryden and Treaty 3 Police Service — are partnering together to collect winter clothing for those in need.

“Our group knows that the cold winter months have arrived and there are people in need of assistance,” OPP Const. Brittany Bembeneck said.

The groups are asking the public to donate gently used jackets, ski pants and boots. However, new hats, mitts and socks can also be donated.

“We wanted to come together as a group and give back to the community and people in our community that we all care about.  We would like to encourage everyone who is able to donate to do so, and would like to thank everyone for their support,” Bembeneck said.

People can drop off items at the Dryden OPP detachment on Highway 17 East, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. from Monday through Wednesday.

Donations can also be dropped off at the Northwestern Health Unit and FireFly office on Van Horne Avenue in Dryden on Nov. 26 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
