Drugs, weapons charges laid after search of Fort Frances residence

FORT FRANCES — Three people have been arrested after a search warrant was executed at a Fort Frances residence earlier this month.

In a news release issued Wednesday, provincial police said the warrant was executed on May 12 at a home on Portage Avenue.

The search resulted in the seizure of suspected methamphetamine, cocaine, crack cocaine, and fentanyl. Police also seized brass knuckles, conductive energy weapons, bear spray and a baton, along with cash and items associated with drug trafficking.

Two Fort Frances residents — a 31-year-old and a 29-year-old — are each charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, three counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon, two counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, andthree counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibiton order.

A 34-year-old from Alberton was also charged with two counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.

All three remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in a Fort Frances court at a later date.
