In a media release issued Thursday, police said officers stopped the first vehicle on May 7 just after 1 p.m. on Highway 594 west of Dryden. Police said they seized substances suspected to be cocaine and fentanyl.
Three people from Wabigoon Lake — a 29 year-old woman, a 28 year-old woman and a 34 year-old man — were all charged with possessing fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking.
Additionally, the 29 year-old faces charges of trafficking cocaine, possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possessing proceeds of crime under $5,000. The 34 year-old was charged with failing to comply with probation.
Police said they did a second traffic stop around 2 p.m. on Highway 11 east of Couchiching First Nation and arrested two people from the community.
A 36 year-old woman and a 69 year-old man were both charged with possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
All five are in custody, police said, and were scheduled in court on Thursday.
The OPP said the investigation that led to the charges was done in partnership with Treaty 3 police.
