Driving with no headlights leads to impaired charges

FORT FRANCES -- A traffic stop in Fort Frances has led to impaired driving charges for a 19-year-old Atikokan man.

According to an Ontario Provincial Police release, officers were on patrol when they observed a motor vehicle on Sunday, Aug.14 just after 4:30 a.m. driving in Atikokan without headlights.

Police say a traffic stop was conducted.

Officers determined the driver had been consuming alcohol. 

The driver failed the Approved Roadside Screening Device, was arrested at the scene and transported to the Atikokan Detachment for further tests.

As a result of the investigation, a 19-year-old of Atikokan has been charged with operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs and operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused was released from custody and will appear in Atikokan Provincial Court on Oct. 19 to answer to his charges
