FORT FRANCES—Ontario has activated the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians, program to support residents affected by a flood in the Town of Fort Frances.
The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing made that announcement. Information about this program was posted on the Town of Fort Frances website.
According to the Ministry, “The disaster assistance program applies to a primary residence and its basic contents, or to a small business, farm or not-for-profit organization. It provides assistance for emergency expenses and the costs to repair or replace essential property following a natural disaster not covered by insurance. Low-income households can apply for assistance for damage caused by sewer backup, which is not otherwise eligible under the program.”
The Town of Fort Frances and region has been affected by severe weather and heavy rainfall which has led to overland flooding and washed-out roads throughout the municipality and Kenora region.
The town’s wastewater treatment system has also overloaded which has resulted in basement flooding for some residents.
The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing continues to make helping Ontarians recover following a natural disaster such as a flood, a priority.
