Cyclist airlifted to hospital in Thunder Bay

Police say cyclist was struck in collision with pick-up truck in Fort Frances. on Saturday, June 7.

FORT FRANCES -- A 50-year-old Fort Frances cyclist was airlifted to Thunder Bay after being struck by a pick-up truck while crossing a roadway in the Northwestern Ontario community. 

Rainy River Ontario Provincial Police, in a release issued on Monday, said the incident took place on Saturday, June 7 at about 11:40 p.m., while the cyclist was crossing Portage Avenue. 

The truck was travelling east along Second Street. 

The cyclist was initially transported to hospital in Fort Frances, but was later flown to Thunder Bay on ORNGE Air. 

Rainy River District EMS and Fort Frances Fire Rescue also attended the incident. 

Police are asking the public for any information about the collision and asking anyone in the area who may have witnessed the incidet to contact Fort Frances OPP at 807-274-3322 or to phone 1-888-310-1122.
