DRYDEN — OPP have laid a number of charges against a resident of Dryden after police responded to reports of an aggressive driver on the Wabigoon Lake ice road.

The incident occurred Friday evening.

Police spotted the suspected driver in his vehicle in town and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

When the motorist failed to stop, officers followed him for a short distance before disengaging out of fear for public safety.

"The situation became too dangerous for other road users," OPP said in a news release Monday.

Police eventually located a man who appeared to be impaired.

After tests, he was charged with impaired driving, two counts of dangerous driving, two counts of flight from police, and failing to yield from a private road.

The charges have not been tested in court.

The 41-year-old was released form custody with a court appearance scheduled for early May.

It is Newswatch policy not to name people facing criminal accusations when we are unlikely to follow the case to its conclusion in the courts.
