ATIKOKAN – A dangerous driving complaint has led to the arrest of a 53-year-old Emo woman on charges of impaired driving.

Ontario Provincial Police, in a release issued on Monday, said at about 11 p.m. on June 10 an officer with the Atikokan detachment responded to a call about an impaired driver in Bunnell Park. The vehicle was located and the officer allegedly determined the driver had been consuming alcohol.

Police say the woman subsequently failed a screening device test and was arrested and taken to the detachment where additional screening was conducted.

As a result, the accused was charged with one count of impaired operation, alcohol and drugs, and one count of impaired operation with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 milligrams per litre or above.

The accused received a 90-day licence suspension and her vehicle was impounded for seven days.

She was released, with a promise to appear in court in Atikokan on July 31.

From June 27 to July 6, OPP officers will be conducting patrols, waterways and trails to promote safety during Canada Day Week.

It is Newswatch policy not to name people accused of crimes unless it’s likely we will follow the case through to its conclusion in court.
