Complaint leads OPP to an impaired driver

A public complaint about a possible impaired driver ended with several Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act charges for a person from Prince Edward Island.

ATIKOKAN – On the evening of Oct. 4, members of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a public complaint about a possible impaired driver on Highway 11 near Mine Center.

OPP members of the Atikokan detachment located the vehicle and determined the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver was taken into custody for breath testing.

As a result, a 48-year-old male from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island is charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
  • Drive while suspended in Ontario

The accused's driver's licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Atikokan Ontario Court of Justice on Nov. 16 to answer the charges.
