FORT FRANCES—The Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police in partnership with the Township of Chapple will be opening a new Community Policing Office, located within the Community Hall at 140 Main Street, Barwick, Ont., on June 28, 2022.

Their news release described the integral role that these community policing offices play. “Community Policing Offices are a connection between police and residents in the community and are a safe place for the public to access services and participate in programs focused on crime prevention and community safety.”

These offices play an important role in these communities focusing on policing responsibilities, as well as:

  • Programs and services that assist the police and the community in achieving common goals
  • Programs that help build trust and promote public safety

"Our new Community Policing Office in Chapple is reflective of the vast geography served by the Rainy River District Detachment and will enable and support enhancements to the OPP's service delivery, visibility, enforcement and crime prevention throughout the western half of the district,” stated Inspector Shaun Crabbe, commander, Rainy River District OPP.

In addition, the news release indicated that, the Community Policing Office will have signage identifying it as an official OPP service location and although it will not be open to the public for unscheduled drop-ins, it will be available to support access to OPP programming, scheduled meetings, investigative support and policing operations.
