Collision with train leads to impaired charge

After colliding with a train, a Rainy River man is charged with impaired driving.

FORT FRANCES – In the early morning of Nov.25, The Ministry of Transportation reported a road closure on Highway 11 near Highway 611 in the Fort Frances area due to a collision.

After an investigation, the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police has charged a driver with impaired driving, after colliding with a freight train in Alberton Township.

Officers attended the scene along with emergency services. No injuries were sustained as a result of the collision.

As a result of an investigation, one driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.

A 34 years old male from Rainy River, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration
  • As well as several Highway Traffic Act infractions.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Fort Frances, on Dec. 28.

His licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
