KENORA— Kenora Mayor Daniel Raynard, along with Central Community Club Board Members, celebrated the start of construction at Central Park. A new recreation facility, which will include a new clubhouse, outdoor rinks and landscaping, will make up this new Central Community Club.

Contractors began work on the project April 11, 2022, with the initial foundation preparation and pipe installation.  Construction is said to continue until the expected completion date in May. As the ground thaws, excavating the footings for the foundation will begin and once the underground work is completed, the building of the new clubhouse, outdoor rinks and landscaping will start.

“The city is very excited to see the start of this long-awaited project. We know recreation is important in making a strong, vibrant community, and so are community partnerships. We want to recognize Central Community Board volunteers who had the vision and passion for advocating for a new facility so that everyone could enjoy playing outdoors together again.” states Mayor Daniel Reynard.

Mayor Raynard, Central Community Club Board Members, Council Members, Community Partners, and the city of Kenora, acknowledged that this project could not have come to fruition, had it not been for contributions from the Federal and Provincial Governments, several community Partners, and community fundraising campaigns.

Amidst all of this excitement, the City of Kenora, also informed residents that Titan Contractors has had to close a portion of First Street South until further notice. A detour route is in place with a speed bump to protect a bypass pumping line that will be installed on Park Street. There will be speed limit signs posted in the construction zone, to ensure that motorists slow down and proceed with caution when in this area.

The city’s recent announcement regarding the start of this construction stated that the Central Community Club executive, has been very active fundraising for the new facility. CCC intends to begin another fundraising drive to cover some construction costs, furniture and some additional features for the Clubhouse.

The CCC added that community donation support is appreciated and that anyone wishing to make a donation can do so at Kenora's City Hall.
