KENORA — City of Kenora residents were given some help from their municipal office so that they can better understand how to interpret their property assessment notice.
Residential property assessment notices come from Municipal Property Assessment Corporation, who is responsible for assessing and classifying all properties in Ontario. Your Municipality will use this assessment to calculate your 2022 property tax.
Therefore, it cannot be stressed enough how important it is for you to read and understand your property assessment notice.
The City of Kenora shared key information for their residents to know how to do this.
Here are some things to read and look for:
- The number at the top which is your property’s assessed value and is based on a fixed rate set by the Government of Ontario.
- You will also see how your property value has changed since the last assessment.
- Details about your property such as the type, lot dimensions, building square footage and factors considered when MPAC did the assessment.
- Finally, you will see your roll number and access key. You can use this information to log onto AboutMyProperty to see what information MPAC has on file, for your property and compare it to others in your neighbourhood.
City officials also informed residents what to do if they have any concerns or questions about their property assessment. They can: request for reconsideration free of charge on the site; go to: mpac.ca
