RED LAKE – After a two-year hiatus, the 2022 Chunkuni Business Award is ready to honour those members who have displayed innovation, hard work, and creativity in the Red Lake and Ear Falls community.

The Chukuni Business Awards first took place in the fall of 2015 when the Chukuni Communities Development Corporation decided that the businesses, employees, and organizations of the Red Lake & Ear Falls area should be recognized for their hard work and contribution to the district’s economy.

“Historically, the communities have been very actively involved in submitting nominations. We are expecting that a lot more nominations will be received this year as so many businesses and individuals went above and beyond during the COVID pandemic,” said Susan Whiticar, Administrative Assistant, CCDC.

The award categories are:

  • Business Customer Service Excellence sponsored by BDO Canada LLP
  • Business Supporting Youth
  • Citizen of the Year
  • Group of the Year sponsored by NGI
  • Employee of the Year sponsored by the Municipality of Red Lake
  • Home Based Business of the Year
  • Business of the Year

"Nominations for the various awards are submitted by community members through an online nomination form. That way the whole community can be involved and have a say in who the recipients may be,” said Whiticar.

From there a committee oversees the results and rates each nominee based on community responses to the questionnaire on the nomination form.

“For those submitting nominations, it’s very important to be as detailed as possible,” said Whiticar. “Remember to review the criteria for the award category and explain why the nominee is deserving of the award.”

Nominations can be filled out online at www.chukuni.com until August 21, 2022.
