KENORA—The Municipality of Kenora has had to react to an increase in overnight parking and vandalism to the park gate by vehicle owners at Anicinabe Park.
According to the municipality release, vehicle owners have been forcing the gate open during closed hours.
The Anicinabe Park gate is usually locked with a mechanical lock, at 10:30 p.m. and reopens at 6:30 a.m. The municipality reminds park users that, “The absence of a visible padlock does not denote permission to attempt to force the gate open.” In fact, they wish to remind residents that this is a criminal code offence under-Mischief 430(1); and that the gate is under 24 hour. surveillance.
Consequently, the municipality has announced that, “Anicinabe Park, with the support of the City of Kenora, will be enforcing the posted "No Overnight Parking" regulation. Vehicles and boat trailers that remain in the park after 10:30 p.m. and are not registered guests of Anicinabe Park, will be towed.”
To date, there are four existing public information signs at the boat launch/beach parking. The municipality added that Anicinabe Park will engage in a public campaign to alert drivers of the enforcement of this regulation.
In addition, there is parking available in the two City of Kenora lots, on Mikana Way for those who are using the park after hours; as well as a public launch at the Recreation Centre that is open 24 hours a day.
The city regrets that this is necessary and stated that “We are deeply disappointed that the disrespect for property of some has led to this.”
