Candidate Profile Kiiwetinoong: Dwight Monck (PC)

Dwight Monck was born and raised in London; a relatively small city located in the heart of Southern Ontario. After schooling was complete, his two passions collided: flying and policing.

SIOUX LOOKOUT – Dwight Monck has been a long stand public figure in the Kiiwetinoong riding for many years.

Initially, piloting was the most obvious path for Monck. After Monck obtained his private and commercial pilot licence, however, sometimes what people think is an obvious career path, new routes opened up.

That is when Monck found himself embarking on a career as a police officer.

Monck started his career as a police officer in Exeter, Ontario. Still, when an opportunity arose in 1995, Monck transferred to Sioux Lookout to become part of an elite team known as the “Northwest Patrol Unit.”

The Northwest Patrol Unit is a specialized detachment responsible for policing all the fly-in remote First Nations communities from Sioux Lookout to as far north as Fort Severn on Hudson Bay.

Monck’s passion for flying and serving the people of the north was now entirely entwined.

In 1998, Dwight was promoted to sergeant and transferred to Thunder Bay as a pilot with the OPP Aviation Services.

Then In 2003, Monck served as an Ontario Police detachment commander in Pickle Lake before deciding to leave policing and join the private sector in 2007. He started two small businesses while keeping his hand in aviation with Wasaya Airways.

In 2018 Dwight became mayor of the Municipality of Pickle Lake, and during this time, he realized that Kiiwetinoong needed to have solid conservative representation in Queen’s Park.

When asked how he could make a difference, his response was, “I believe my knowledge of the Kiiwetinoong riding and the people who reside within it will enable me to speak for everyone and be the conduit needed to take our issues to Parliament. It will be crucial to have strong leadership to bring our area back to pre-COVID prosperity in the next few years. We need to be on the same team. Premier Ford’s time in office during this unforeseen pandemic has been challenging, and I feel his leadership has been strong. I am honoured to have been chosen as the PC candidate for the Kiiwetinoong riding. It is my home”.
