RED LAKE – Although the disaster has been averted for the emergency department for the Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital, the health care crisis continues as service interruptions for the Obstetrics Program are set to begin.

Due to the current physician shortage, from July 7 to Aug. 3, expectant mothers will need to make alternative arrangements before their expected date to give birth.

“If you are pregnant and it is possible that you may give birth during this time, please follow up with your health care provider to ensure proper arrangements are in place for your delivery, said hospital staff in their press release.

Health Care providers can help new mothers understand any potential risks that may be associated with their pregnancy, as well as, what to expect when in labour.

Alternatively, those seeking immediate attention can travel to the next closest Emergency Department, which is in Dryden which is 217 kilometres away from Red Lake.

The Red Lake Medical Associates, the Hospital, and the Family Health Team will continue to exhaust all options to secure coverage and explore possible alternative care models.

They will communicate all relevant information to the community and partners, as more information develops.
