Break and enter leads to weapons and drug charges

The investigation led to police seizing a firearm and what they described as a "large quantity" of ammunition, along with a knife. Police also seized suspected cocaine, methamphetamine and items related to drug trafficking.

SIOUX LOOKOUT — Two people face charges after police responded to a break-in, which led to the seizure of weapons and suspected drugs.

Provincial police were called to an address on Millar Crescent on Sioux Lookout early Thursday morning.

The investigation led to police seizing a firearm and what they described as a "large quantity" of ammunition, along with a knife. Police also seized suspected cocaine, methamphetamine and items related to drug trafficking.

Skylar Masakeyash, a 28-year-old from Sioux Lookout, is charged with two counts of pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, using a firearm while committing an offence, uttering threats, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and failure to comply with a probation order.

Masakeyash had been convicted of manslaughter in the 2017 death of 31-year-old Kevin Roundhead in Thunder Bay.

The other individual charged, 34-year-old Brian Whiskeyjack of Sioux Lookout, is charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, two counts of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, and resisting a peace officer.

Both remain in custody and are due to appear in court on Friday. 

The charges have yet to be tested in court.
