OAKVILLE, Ont. – The Sioux Lookout Bombers had perhaps their best effort yet at the 2024 Centennial Cup, but still fell short of collecting their first win at the 10-team tournament.

The Bombers were tied 2-2 with the Miramichi Timberwolves on Sunday night, but gave up a late second-period shorthanded goal to Elliot Robert and a pair of third-period power-play goals and went on to lose their third straight contest by a 5-3 count.

Jeremy Duhamel and David Doucet, a five-year veteran of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League, broke the game wide open in the third, with Duhamel beating Matthew Spencer-Dahl at the 9:43 mark of the final period. Doucet connected with 3:32 to go in regulation.

Alex Lucas, Jonah Smith and Tait Howel responded for the Superior International Junior Hockey League champion Bombers.

Sioux Lookout was outshot 45-26 on the night and have been outscored 14-7 in three appearances at the Oakville, Ont. event.

The Bombers have one more shot at collecting a win, taking on Saskatchewan’s Melfort Mustangs on Tuesday at noon at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex.
