Boater charged with impaired boating in Red Lake

The OPP is charging a man from Red Lake with operating a vessel while impaired.

RED LAKE -- A man from Red Lake has been charged with operating a boat while impaired.

On Aug. 26, officers from the Red Lake and Ear Falls Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police stopped a man on a boat at the Cochenour docks on Red Lake.

OPP determined the boater had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The officer asked for a breathalyzer sample. The man failed, was placed under arrest, and returned to the detachment for further tests.

As a result of the investigation, a man from Red Lake is charged with:

  • 1x Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • 1x Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

He has been released and is scheduled to appear in court in Red Lake on Oct. 20.

OPP wants to remind people that motorists who drive impaired by alcohol or drugs are subject to driver's licence suspensions, fines, vehicle impoundment, criminal records, and increased insurance costs. 

Members of the public are urged to report Impaired Driving by calling 911 in emergency situations. Complaints of impaired, aggressive or careless driving can also be made by calling 1-888-310-1122.
