Blaze destroys home in far north First Nation

FORT SEVERN — One person escaped without serious injury from a house fire in the province's northernmost community.

In the early hours of Thursday morning, Nishnawbe Aski Police Service were called about a house fire in Fort Severn First Nation.

When officers arrived at the scene, the house was fully engulfed in flames, according to a media release issued on Friday by NAPS.

First responders were able to confirm that the lone occupant of the home had escaped and didn't appear to sustain any serious injuries. 

The blaze completely destroyed the home. 

After concluding their investigation, police said that no charges are expected to result from the incident.
