Aysanabee nominated for six Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Awards

THUNDER BAY — A Northwestern Ontario musician is up for a number of awards next week.

Aysanabee, a member of Sandy Lake First Nation who was raised in Kaministiquia, is nominated for six Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Awards awards

Aysanabee is nominated for Recording Artist of the Year, Pop/Alternative/Rock Album of the Year, Radio Song Single of the Year, Live Musical Performance of the Year, Artistic Video and Rising Star.

He was a Juno Award nominee in 2023 for Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the Year Category for his album Watin, which was named after his grandfather. 

Last year he performed at Wake the Giant Music Festival, which is a cultural awareness project that celebrates inclusivity and Indigenous culture 

The show works to represent Indigenous musical artists from across Canada, with trophies being doled out on Tuesday.
