THUNDER BAY – No development or accomplishment is too small when it comes to housing in First Nation communities, and it’s important to recognize these advancements taking place across the country.

The First Nation Community Housing Recognition Awards is seeking submissions this year to recognize accomplishments in First Nation housing, including building projects, policies, and training.

“These awards were designed for communities to share achievements that they hold close to home,” said Clarence Meekis, member of the First Nations Housing Conference Working Group. “There is no accomplishment too small or too big, what matters is the pride shared together within the community and its members.”

The awards have been presented for the last 20 years and this year there will be 16 awards handed out.

The awards will be presented at the First Nations Housing conference taking place in Thunder Bay from Oct. 25 to 27.

Eligibility for award submissions include being from any First Nation across Canada, a project or initiative completed within the last 12 months, and be based on a housing project or achievement that made the community better in categories of technical, administrative, or leadership planning.

“We want our communities to share any and all of their housing successes, highlight the hard work and dedication of its community members, and most of all, inspire other communities,” Meekis said.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, Sept. 30 at 11:59 p.m. eastern standard time. For more information, visit the First Nation Community Housing Recognition Awards 2022 website.
