Awards celebrate Red Lake-area businesses

Chukuni Business Awards recognize Red Lake-area businesses, organizations, and citizens.

Red Lake-area businesses, organizations were honoured this week at the Chukuni Business Awards.

The Chukuni Communities Development Corporation (CCDC) hosted the event at the Red Lake Legion on Sept. 24.

The event began at 6 p.m. and 150 people were in attendance. The dinner was catered by Rod Atkinson and served by the Red Lake District High School’s Basketball teams. Appetizers were made by the school’s hospitality class.

The emcee for the evening was Ian Russel, and the special guest speaker was Patrick Hunter. Patrick is an award-winning artist from Red Lake who spoke about the importance of indigenous art and his journey to success.

CCDC premiered a short video clip taken from their upcoming video, ‘Perrault Falls, Ear Falls, Red Lake… Discover Us!’. The video was funded through the Economic Recovery Fund as well as proceeds from past business awards.

Business Customer Service Excellence – Red Lake Travel

Business Supporting Youth – Kreger’s Krates

Citizen of the Year – Herb Kolmel

Group of the Year – Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital Foundation

Employee of the Year – Robyn Gula from Scotiabank

Home Based Business – Angela Burdney of Sweet Designs by Ange

Business of the Year – Antonio’s Restaurant
