Atikokan woman charged with impaired driving after collision

The police released the woman, who will first appear in the Atikokan Ontario Court of Justice in late June.

ATIKOKAN — A woman was arrested for driving impaired by drugs after an early morning single vehicle collision on Highway 11 near Flanders Road.

The OPP received a call from the driver, who reported she was involved in the collision on Friday around 4 a.m., according to a media release issued by the OPP on Sunday.

While the driver was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, the responding officers allegedly observed signs of impairment and a drug recognition expert was brought in to conduct an evaluation.

The evaluation determined the driver was not able to operate the vehicle safely due to drug consumption, resulting in the 29-year-old woman’s arrest.

The woman was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and impaired operation by alcohol and drugs.

The OPP also suspended her driver’s licence for 90 days and impounded her vehicle for seven days.

The police released the woman, who will first appear in the Atikokan Ontario Court of Justice in late June.
