DRYDEN — The Dryden Fire Service was called to an apartment complex along Government Street on Wednesday evening.
Around 7:30 pm, crews were dispatched to reports of an active smoke alarm and found light smoke coming from one of the apartments.
Firefighters were able to evacuate one occupant from the affected unit safely and started their attack on the blaze.
Residents in the other units were also evacuated while crews continued their work.
The fire service reports that one individual was transported to the hospital by KDSB Northwest EMS for treatment.
In a social media post, fire Chief Chris Wood thanked the coordinated efforts of the 31 firefighters who attended the call along with OPP and Northwest EMS.
The fire was able to be contained and that prevented further damage to the building.
All other occupants were able to return to their residences safely.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
