As its sales fall, The Beer Store store has announced the closure of ten more locations across Ontario

SIOUX LOOKOUT — The Beer Store has announced another series of retail store closures across Ontario, including one in the Northwest.

The location in Sioux Lookout will be shuttered effective the end of the business day on Sept.14.

Nine others are being shut down across southern Ontario.

"The retail market for beer is changing...and for The Beer Store that means making the difficult decision to close some retail locations," vice-president Ozzie Ahmed said in a prepared statement.

In June, the privately-owned company announced the closure of its store in Atikokan and nine other communities across the province, effective Aug. 24.

Nipigon's beer store was closed in September 2024.

The expansion of beer sales to Ontario convenience stores last fall is projected to cause The Beer Store's market share to drop from 41 per cent last year to just 15 per cent by 2027.
