American driver charged with impaired in Fort Frances

Police witnessed a man walking unsteadily from a local licensed establishment at about midnight on April 14.

FORT FRANCES – An OPP officer with a keen eye helped keep an impaired driver off the highway in Fort Frances.

According to a release issued on Thursday, an officer in the area witnessed a person displaying an unsteady gait leaving a licensed establishment at midnight on April 14, subsequently getting behind the wheel of a vehicle.

The officer stopped the vehicle and demanded a roadside test, which the driver failed. The 28-year-old American driver was taken into custody where additional breath testing was completed.

The International Falls, Minn. man was charged with one count of impaired operation alcohol or drug and impaired operation blood alcohol concentration 80 milligrams or over.

The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

He was released and expected back in court in Fort Frances on May 12.
