ATIKOKAN — A local man is facing charges of forcible confinement, sexual assault, assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm, and possession of a prohibited device.
A bail hearing was scheduled for Monday for the 20-year-old who's been in custody following his arrest.
OPP said they began an investigation on May 1 after receiving a report that a woman had been assaulted by her intimate partner.
Police subsequently determined the complainant had been sexually assaulted, and that the accused person had a prohibited firearm.
They then obtained a warrant to search a residence related to the man, and found two imitation firearms on the premises.
OPP are withholding his name in order to protect the identity of the complainant.
A publication ban is also in effect under a provision of the Criminal Code of Canada.
The charges have not yet been tested in court.
