Alberta man arrested after explosive device found during Kenora traffic stop

KENORA — A 28-year-old Calgary man faces several charges after being pulled over during a traffic stop in Kenora this week.

Provincial police said officers stopped a vehicle on Highway 17A for alleged Highway Traffic Act offences on Thursday evening.

Officers arrested the driver for suspected impaired driving.

A search of the vehicle resulted in weapons, drugs, a firearm, and a homemade explosive device being found. Police said the OPP's explosives disposal unit attended the scene to help with the search of the vehicle.

Charges against the accused include making or possessing explosives for an unlawful purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm or ammunition in violation of a prohibition order, drug possession, and careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition.
