Airplane fuselage hits the runway, TSB finishes investigation

The flight path showed an unstable approach, which then caused the plane to bounce and tip up on the landing.

SANDY LAKE — The Transportation Safety Board has wrapped up an investigation of a hard landing in Sandy Lake in the fall of 2022, which caused significant damage to the fuselage of a plane.

According to the plane's flight path, the Bearskin aircraft, which was carrying 28 passengers and three crew members, landed hard on the runway, leaving skid marks on both the tarmac and the exterior of the plane's belly.

The Transportation Safety Board investigated and found the pilot and first officer had both been hired a few months earlier and had limited experience flying in the remote north.

The flight path showed an unstable approach, which then caused the plane to bounce and tip up on the landing.

Since that incident, Perimeter Air has taken several safety actions, including training on pitch awareness and having at least one experienced member in the cockpit at all times.
