UPDATED: One dead in airplane crash near Kenora

The TSB is deploying a team of investigators after an aircraft collided with terrain near Kenora, Ontario.

KENORA, Ont. – One person has died after the aircraft they were piloting crashed near Kenora.

An amateur-built Arion Lightning aircraft collided with terrain on Lake of the Woods on Wednesday, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada said in a release. 

Ontario Provincial Police responded to a call about the crash at 7:57 p.m., said an OPP spokesperson.

Officers located the plane wreckage on Shore Island finding the pilot dead at the scene.

There were no other occupants in the aircraft, police said.

The pilot's name is yet to be released as an investigation continues.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted by the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

The TSB said it has deployed a team of investigators.
