The municipality of Sioux Lookout is inviting the community to celebrate the official re-opening of Farlinger Park on Saturday.

The popular well-used park along with Town beach was closed for the renovations since the fall of 2019.

The municipality said it removed construction fences before Canada Day and the park been available for use for much of the summer including during the Blueberry Festival and the Sioux Mountain Music Festival which both took place earlier this month.

The upgrades include a new stage where local musicians will be performing live during the re-opening event.

Some of the additional improvements to the park include a boardwalk, playground, pavilion area, water access ramps down to the beach.  It also now has space for food trucks with hook ups for hydro and water.

The municipality said completion of the work took longer than expected due to the pandemic and the project’s current 3.5 million dollar cost includes a $600,000 overrun which is being funding by Sioux Lookout’s portion of the Municipal Accommodation Tax.

The reopening celebration will also include a free BBQ. It takes place Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. with a rain date to be announced next week in case of rain.
