THUNDER BAY — A four-month investigation into a drug ring operating in Northwestern Ontario has led to charges against 14 people, 10 of whom are residents of Thunder Bay.
Ontario Provincial Police say they also seized nearly two kilos of cocaine and quantities of numerous other controlled drugs including crack cocaine, crystal meth and fentanyl.
The trafficking network extended to Thunder Bay, Greenstone, Dryden, Sioux Lookout and Fort Frances.
The other four accused are two people from Dryden, one resident of Eagle Lake First Nation, and a person from Wabigoon First Nation.
In an announcement Wednesday, OPP said they also seized about $73,000 in Canadian currency and six vehicles.
Project OGDEN was a collaboration involving several branches of the OPP, the Thunder Bay Police Service, Dryden Police Service and Nishnawbe Aski Police Service.
"Project OGDEN has had a significant impact on the distribution of illicit and dangerous substances into our Northwest communities," said OPP Chief Superintendent Bryan MacKillop, regional commander in Northwestern Ontario.
"The quantities and variety of substances seized in this investigation are substantial and the impacts will be felt from Greenstone to Sioux Lookout," he said.
MacKillop said the project exemplifies the OPP's commitment to relentlessly pursue criminals threatening the safety of area residents, regardless of geography.
