12-year-old faces firearm charges after breaking into Fort Frances business

The youth is charged with break and enter with intent to steal a firearm, pointing a firearm, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, and mischief under $5,000.

FORT FRANCES — A 12-year-old has been arrested on charges that include pointing a firearm after allegedly brandishing a weapon at police while breaking into a local business.

Provincial police said officers were called to an alarm at a local business just before midnight on Sunday.

Responding officers saw a suspect brandish a weapon in the direction of police, and then ran into the business. Police arrested the suspect.

The youth is charged with break and enter with intent to steal a firearm, pointing a firearm, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, and mischief under $5,000.

The accused is expected to appear in a Fort Frances court on Monday.
