12 arrested in Fort Frances area

FORT FRANCES – Over a three-day period, the Ontario Provincial Police arrested 12 individuals on outstanding warrants using a program designed to deter the criminal activities of repeat offenders.

The Rainy River OPP Community Street Crime Unit and Emergency Response Team conducted an offender management and apprehension program from Feb. 26 to 28 in and around the Fort Frances area, making 12 arrests with two individuals held in custody for bail.

The program focuses on offenders who are deemed to be a high-risk to the safety of communities and individuals and are often involved in repeat criminal behaviour.

OPP used the local initiative to focus on individuals with arrest warrants related to outstanding charges ranging from violent offences to drug, property, and bail violations.

The OPP said this initiative was performed with a high-priority focus on public safety.

The following individuals face numerous charges:

Individual #1:

  • Cruelty to animals - unnecessary pain, suffering or injury
  • Assault with A Weapon
  • Criminal Harassment - repeatedly communicate
  • Perjury

Individual #2

  • Assault - Spousal x 2

Individual # 3

  • Break, Enter a place - commit indictable offence
  • Theft Over $5000
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin) x 2

Individual #4

  • Operation while impaired - blood drug concentration
  • Fail to Appear/Comply with Appearance Notice, Promise to Appear, or Recognizance
  • Dangerous operation
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Other Drugs
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Other Drugs x 2

Individual #5

  • Assault with a Weapon X 3

Individual #6

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)


Individual #7

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

Individual #8

  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Failure to comply with undertaking
  • Assault with a Weapon - Spousal x 2
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 2
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm


Individual #9

  • Sexual Assault x 2

Individual #10

  • Assault - Spousal x 2
  • Failure to comply with undertaking
  • Poss of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine
  • Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm-Spousal
  • Failure to attend court after having appeared x 3
  • Break, Enter dwelling house - commit indictable offence

Individual #11

  • Assault
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Individual #12

  • Unlawfully in Dwelling House
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Assault a Peace Officer
