$110,000 in drugs and cash seized from residence

NORTH SPIRIT LAKE — Police have seized quantities of cocaine, oxycodone and cash following the search of a home on North Spirit Lake First Nation, 530 km northwest of Thunder Bay.

Nishnawbe Aski Police Service said the combined value of the items found during the execution of a search warrant Sunday is over $110,000, including nearly $16,000 in cash.

The warrant was obtained as the result of an ongoing investigation into the trafficking of drugs in the remote community.

Two local residents and a third individual have all been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, and with possession of property obtained by crime.

They include a 31-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man from North Spirit Lake and a 23-year-old woman from Fort Hope First Nation.

All three, whose names have not been released yet, have been released from custody with conditions pending a future appearance in court.
