Buffalo Ranch Solar and Battery Energy Storage System
To prepare for future electricity demands and support a reliable grid for Ontarians, the Independent Electricity System Operator initiated Long-Term Request for Proposals to secure new electricity resources that could be in service into the 2030s and beyond.
Atura Power, a subsidiary of Ontario Power Generation, is submitting proposals to develop a ground mounted solar-powered electricity generation facility and a battery energy storage system (BESS) in the City of Dryden, Ont., as part of the Electricity System Operator’s Long-Term Request for Proposals. The proposed Buffalo Ranch Solar and Buffalo Ranch BESS projects will be at 188 Lyle Road, Dryden.
Solar Project Description
The proposed Buffalo Ranch Solar project will have an electricity generation capacity of up to 75 megawatts. The project will include solar panels, inverters, mounting systems, and electrical infrastructure designed to capture sunlight and convert it into electricity for distribution to Ontario’s electricity system.
BESS Project Description
The proposed Buffalo Ranch BESS project will store and output up to 200 megawatts of electricity for up to eight hours to Ontario's electricity system when electricity demand is high. The project will include battery units and a system that will convert electrical alternating current to direct current for battery storage, as well as other components such as transformers, emergency power, support buildings, and transmission connection facilities.
