The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Economic Development, the Coordinator, Economic Development is responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of economic development programs and services delivered by the Town of Collingwood. The position works closely with businesses and investors, post-secondary institutions, government officials, and community stakeholders to identify economic development opportunities and develop strategies to attract, retain and grow businesses in the area, with the guidance of approved master plans. The Coordinator provides administrative support and a front-line presence at the Business Development Centre (BDC) for the division.

What You Will Do

• Conduct research and analysis including surveys to identify economic development opportunities for the community. Develop and implement strategies to attract, retain, and grow businesses in the area, with the guidance of approved master plans.
• Consult with local businesses, industry, and tourism sector representatives to identify their needs and provide support for their growth and expansion.
• Coordinate with local government agencies, post-secondary institutions, and other organizations to promote and collaborate on economic development initiatives to foster growth and prosperity.
• Organize and attend meetings with stakeholders to discuss economic development projects, services, programs, and plans.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of economic development programs and initiatives using evidence-based qualitative and quantitative key performance indicators. Prepare reports and presentations on economic development activities and results.
• Create, manage and maintain databases, including businesses and economic development resources, investment attraction land availability, tourism products or for other purposes.
• Develop and implement marketing and promotional materials to attract businesses and investment to the area.
• Assist in securing funding and grants for economic development initiatives.
• Provide guidance and support to entrepreneurs and small business owners in the community
• Provide administrative support to the Division and ensuring division compliance with record retention requirements and Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
• Provide input into and monitor budgets, manage revenues and expenditures, prepare reconciliation reports for approval.

Skills and Experience

• Two (2) years of related experience in Economic Development. Municipal experience is an asset.
• Working knowledge of business support processes as well as programs and services available to assist small businesses and larger employers. Demonstrated experience leading corporate events and marketing is an asset.
• Technical knowledge and/or experience in other facets of economic development programs and services delivered by the Town including investment attraction, tourism promotion and support, workforce readiness, post-secondary expansion/attraction, etc.
• Excellent administrative, communication, interpersonal, organizational, time management, customer service, and public relations skills, together with the ability to use tact and discretion and to deal courteously and effectively with the public and fellow staff members.
• Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, database management, website analytics and marketing tools (e.g., social media, Wordpress, Customer Relationship Management software), and office equipment. Familiarity with financial management software (e.g., Great Plains) an asset.
Qualifications
• Post-secondary education, including business and computer courses. Completion of Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) related economic development courses is an asset.
• Valid Calss “G” driver’s license and reliable vehicle to use on corporate business. Ability and willingness to travel within the community as required.
• Possess a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (Level 2) with results satisfactory to the employer, and a valid standard first aid & CPR/AED Level C certification (or willing to obtain).

Other Important Information

Normal hours of work are thirty-five (35) hours per week. The pay range is $61,388.60 to $74,601.80 ($33.73 to $40.99 per hour). This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement per Employer policy.
