The Mobile Crisis Response Worker will accompany a police officer on patrol as part of a joint collaborative response to incidents that fall within the scope of the Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) mandate. The member will work with Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Blind River and Thessalon detachments and provide mobile crisis response to individuals of all ages along the North Shore. The Mobile Crisis Response Worker completes a comprehensive mental health assessment and links individuals to appropriate mental health services. The Mobile Crisis Response Worker also provide follow-up to individuals that require initial crisis intervention services.
Duties
• Adherence to all policies of the Huron Shores FHT • Assurance of confidentiality of all client, personnel and organizational records and information
• Maintenance of client files and data files including updating of client information consistent with policies and procedures of the Huron Shores FHT
• Maintenance of professional qualifications and registration
• Provide crisis intervention and advocacy
• Collaborate with emergency services to stabilize crisis situations of individuals struggling with mental health and/or addiction issues
• Provide short-term crisis support services to stabilize and provide warm hand-offs to partnering agencies in order to facilitate a successful transition to longer-term supports and services
• Provide short term follow-up and support to individuals following a crisis assessment
• Provide education and support to key stakeholders for the purpose of enhancing crisis services along the North Shore
• Assessment of client needs and mental status to develop an appropriate plan for system navigation
• Facilitate and monitor crisis recovery plans to ensure continuity of care is provided
• Assist police officer(s) by providing guidance and expertise in determining apprehension criteria through de-escalation techniques
• Assist at hospital if any apprehension of an individual occurs under the mental health act (NSHN – Blind River & Thessalon)
• Participation in ongoing training and education and application of new skills to practice
• Coordinate shift management as per established policies and procedures
• Support mental health and addiction programming offered through the FHT
• Knowledge and implementation of trauma informed care
• Participate in staff meetings and recovery plan meetings
• Participate on specific committees or task or work groups as assigned
• Ensure client safety and client safety activities are emphasized throughout orientation of new staff members
• Other duties as directed
Assessment/ Evaluation skills
• Case management skills
• Working knowledge of community resources and agencies
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Ability to manage conflict and crisis situations
• Ability to work shift work and be flexible with hours
• Provide on call support as required
• Cultural Competence for diverse populations
Qualifications
• Bachelor of Social Work or related social service degree
• Masters of Social Worker considered a strong asset.
• Registration or eligible for registration with a regulatory College
• Expertise in mental health and addiction and mental health difficulties and treatment modalities
• High standards of ethics and confidentiality to handle sensitive information
• Successfully obtaining OPP Level 4 security clearance.
• Valid Driver’s License
• Certification in CPR and First Aid or willingness to obtain
