Line Painting FAQ
What time of day does line painting occur?
The Town of Collingwood specifies that all line painting takes place during off-peak traffic volume conditions. Line painting may be completed during mid-day, evening, or nighttime hours.
Why don’t line painters just paint at night?
Line painting at night isn’t ideal as road surface and atmospheric temperatures are changing at different rates, often resulting in condensation on the roadway. This creates poor conditions for paint to adhere to the roadway.
How long does it take for road paint to dry?
Normal latex (water-based paint) used for roadway application typically dries within two (2) minutes of application (weather depending).
Paint operations are causing traffic backups; can I pass the warning trucks?
The intent of the warning trucks behind the line painter is to provide sufficient space and time to allow for the paint to dry. If you drive over the yellow centerline to pass line painting operations, you risk paint ending up on your vehicle. Please be patient and follow the direction of the warning trucks.
What if I get paint on my vehicle?
If paint gets on your vehicle, go through a car wash or power spray your vehicle as soon as possible. If that doesn’t remove the road paint, you can try spraying WD-40 on the affected area, letting it dry for two hours, and then rewashing it with soap, water, and a sponge. Alternative methods to remove road pain include applying Vaseline to the affected area, letting it sit overnight, and rewashing it. It is not recommended to scrub the affected area with any type of abrasive pad or cloth. All attempts to remove road paint are done at your own risk.
If I cannot remove the paint, is the Town responsible?
The Town of Collingwood assumes no liability for paint damages to any vehicles that have crossed wet paint lines or disobeyed the warning signs and guide vehicles
