Hospice Orillia, a key community program of the North Simcoe Muskoka Hospice Palliative Care Network (NSMHPCN), is proud share the newly released 2024–2025 NSMHPCN Annual Report. The report outlines a year of growth, connection, and unwavering support for individuals and families facing life-limiting illness, grief, and loss.
As a program of NSMHPCN, Hospice Orillia plays a vital role in delivering local, compassionate, and holistic care to Orillia and surrounding areas. Its work is deeply rooted in the broader mission of the Network: to ensure that every person across North Simcoe Muskoka has access to exceptional hospice palliative care when and where they need it most.
“I’m incredibly proud of the work being done by the Hospice Orillia team,” said Whitney Vowels, Executive Director of the North Simcoe Muskoka Hospice Palliative Care Network. “Their commitment to compassionate, community-based support makes a profound difference for individuals and families in the City of Orillia and surrounding areas. As part of our broader network, they embody the values of dignity, connection, and coordinated care that guide our regional approach to hospice palliative support.”
Hospice Orillia Highlights from the 2024–2025 Report:
• Support at Every Stage: One-on-one support for individuals with life-limiting illnesses, caregivers, and those who are grieving — offered in homes, long-term care settings, and the community.
• Specialized Grief Services: Unique programs for adult aged child loss, arts-based program, and youth experiencing grief, including an equine-assisted support group.
• Dedicated Volunteers: A team of over 45 trained volunteers provided hundreds of hours of support, companionship, and grief facilitation.
• Community Engagement: Events such as Candles of Remembrance, Garden of Remembrance, Hike for Hospice and educational outreach sessions deepened community awareness and connection.
• Collaborative Partnerships: Ongoing work with local healthcare providers, schools, service clubs and other community groups to ensure care is inclusive and accessible.
NSMHPCN: Supporting the Region with a Holistic Approach
While Hospice Orillia serves the Orillia community and surrounding areas directly, the NSMHPCN supports the broader North Simcoe Muskoka region through partnerships, innovative programming, and knowledge-sharing.
Through education initiatives like Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care, LEAP, Canadian Serious Illness Conversations and ECHO, as well as region-wide grief resources, culturally inclusive tools, and system navigation support, the Network strengthens palliative care delivery for everyone — from frontline health care professionals to caregivers and family members.
“NSMHPCN’s work ensures a consistent, compassionate, and coordinated approach to hospice palliative care across all communities,” said Whitney. “Programs like Hospice Orillia bring that vision to life at the local level.”
The 2024–2025 Annual Report offers an in-depth look at the work being done throughout the region — by NSMHPCN and its many partners — to ensure that individuals receive care that honours their dignity, values, and personal choices.
