Winnipeg Jets on the road tonight when they face the Dallas Stars in Game 6 of their second-round Stanley Cup Playoff series at American Airlines Arena in Dallas. Puck drop is 8 p.m. ET on ABC and streaming on fubo.
Dallas Stars Goaltender Jake Oettinger is an absolute wall at home, he's 5-1 with a 2.23 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage in Dallas this postseason. He also happens to be a post-loss machine, with a career 17-6 playoff record in games after a defeat.
Mikko Rantanen leads all playoff scorers with 19 points in 12 games, including four goals and three assists in this series, but could use some help. Jamie Benn, Evgenii Dadonov, Mason Marchment, and Matt Duchene have combined for just three goals total across the entire postseason. Jason Robertson, the team's 35-goal man during the regular season, hasn't scored since returning from injury five games ago.
Meanwhile, the Jets are 0-5 on the road this postseason and have lost nine straight road playoff games dating back to 2023. But if they can pull off a win tonight, they'll head home for a Game 7 at Canada Life Centre, where they're 6-1 this postseason and have shut out Dallas 4-0 in back-to-back games.
They'll be playing with heavy hearts tonight. Center Mark Scheifele will be in the lineup following the passing of his father, Brad. He's been one of the team's top contributors with 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists) in 10 playoff games. Kyle Connor is Winnipeg's go-to in elimination games, with 11 career points, more than any player in Jets/Thrashers franchise history.
The Jets seemed to be in dire straits after losing both games in Dallas, facing elimination for just the second time in these playoffs heading into Thursday night’s clash in Manitoba. Thankfully, the capacity crowd saw an MVP-caliber performance from Connor Hellebuyck, as he turned away all 22 shots he faced in Game 5.
Connor Hellebuyck made 22 saves and the Winnipeg Jets beat the Dallas Stars 4-0 on Thursday night to force a sixth game in the Western Conference semifinal series.
With Edmonton awaiting the winner in the conference final, the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Jets avoided elimination to send the series back to Dallas for Game 6 on Saturday night.
“We knew this wasn’t going to be easy,” Stars forward Matt Duchene said. “We knew they weren’t going to roll over on us. We’re going to Dallas here and see if we can end it.”
Nikolaj Ehlers had two goals and Mark Scheifele and Vladislav Namestnikov also scored to back Hellebuyck in his second shutout of the playoffs.
Jake Oettinger stopped 31 shots for Dallas. Stars captain Jamie Benn sucker-punched Scheifele during a late scrum, with Benn given a misconduct penalty and possibly facing a suspension for Game 6.
