RED LAKE – As part of Red Lake’s Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital door prize giveaway, a local teen guessed the winning number of the Emergency Department visits to win a prize.
In a Facebook post, the RLMCMH states, “Congratulations Kailee for winning the Hospital door prize at today's TenSisters Women's Wellness Fair! To win, participants had to guess how many ED visits there were in July 2022. Kailee had the closest guess with 528! Most people guessed under 100 -- so great job, Kailee!”
According to RLMCMH, “there were 560 ED visits in July 2022.”
Congratulations to Kailee on her win.
However, what is most troubling is the staggering amount of emergency room visits RLMCMH has received during July.
Where most contestants were guessing under a hundred people, the winning number was 525.
This number becomes even more perplexing when compared to the numbers the Kenora District Service Boards have reported recently.
According to Henry Wall, CAO of KDSB, children between the ages of 0 and 10 saw a 36 per cent increase in EMS services, and adults ages 31 to 40-year-old had a 39 per cent increase in EMS services.
With the amount of increase in hospital care, and the lack of staff to accommodate the influx of patients seeking emergency services, there are more questions than answers when in these numbers.
