PICKLE LAKE — Early stages of development for the Pickle Crow project are moving forward as mining company AuTECO and Mishkeegogamang Ojibway Frist Nation have signed an exploration agreement to begin exploring mineral deposits within the First Nations’ traditional territories.
The agreement between the two parties will replace the 2009 exploration memorandum of understanding, which covered the areas beside the Pickle Crow mine. The new agreement allows AuTECO to expand another 500 square kilometres past the original boundary as defined in the 2009 MOU.
“We are pleased to have reached an agreement with AuTECO regarding their operations in our territory, which represents that strong and mutually respectful relationship that has resulted from our engagements,” Mishkeegogamang Chief David Masakeyash said.
“In this agreement, we have developed a strong framework for the protection of our land, and certainly our members will fairly benefit from the work undertaken. Each of these qualities is fundamental to building a relationship with our nation.”
According to AuTECO. the exploration agreement outlines a path forward for an impact benefit agreement if the company decides to pursue commercial development of the mine, in which Mishkeegogamang will be a shareholder.
“This is just the beginning of the partnership," AuTECO CEO Darren Cooke said. "With Mishkeegogamang becoming shareholders of AuTECO, the company will benefit from our ongoing success at Pickle Crow.”
