Manny Pacquiao has the chance to further etch his name into the history books by doing just that, as he returns from a four-year retirement to take on WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios in Las Vegas. Pacquiao last fought in August 2021 when he fell to then-WBA champion Yordenis Ugas, and has since been elected and inducted into boxing's Hall of Fame.
“I’ve been enjoying training camp like I did in the past. Just like when I was 26 years old," Pacquiao said at the final press conference. "The discipline is still the same. Even with my layoff, my passion is still there."
Barrios has held the WBC welterweight title since summer 2024, when he was elevated from interim status, a title he'd held since defeating Ugas in 2023. In Barrios's first defense, he faced Abel Ramos on the undercard of Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson, retaining the title after a split decision draw.
